EMU 2018 – 2019 Academic Year Fall Semester Graduates Throw Caps in Air

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) 2018 – 2019 Academic Year Fall Semester Graduation Ceremony for the graduates of the undergraduate and associate programs was held on January 28th 2019, Monday (14:00) at EMU Lâlâ Mustafa Paşa Sports Complex. EMU undertakes the duty of being a leading institution contributing to the social and cultural development of 20 thousand students from 106 countries. EMU experienced the excitement of graduating nearly 1400 students in the Fall Semester. On the other hand, each year EMU increases the number of its graduates and at the 2018 – 2019 Academic Year Fall Semester, the number has now exceeded 56 thousand.

Graduation Ceremony was Broadcast Live throughout the World

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Minister of Agriculture Erkut Şahali, Member of the Parliament from People’s Party Mesut Genç, Member of the Parliament from the National Unity Party Olgun Amcaoğlu, TRNC Armed Security Forces Deputy Commander Brigadier General Cemal Volkan, Representative of the Nigerian Embassy in Ankara Ahmed Mohammed Monguno, EMU Board of Trustees President Adv. Boysan Boyra, EMU Rector Prof Dr. Necdet Osam, Rauf Raif Denktaş University Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Bıçak, Bologna University Rector’s Representative and Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. Luca Mezzetti, EMU Vice Rectors, Faculty Deans, Department Chairs, academic personnel and approximately 1000 graduates and their families attended the grand ceremony. The graduation ceremony was broadcast live on the internet by EMU TV and BRT 2, Kanal T, Diyalog TV and Kanal Sim. With all its units operating responsively, the graduation ceremony was held with an enthusiastic atmosphere and was worthy of the EMU’s name.

 

The ceremony began with the graduates’ entrance to the hall, and continued with a Moment of Silence and the Turkish National Anthem; performed by a choir of EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts, Music Teaching program students led by EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts Chair Prof. Memduh Özdemir and Choir Chief Erkan Dağlı.

On behalf of all 2018 – 2019 Academic Year Fall Semester graduates, Faculty of Education, Department of Elementary Education, Pre-School Teacher Education Bachelor’s Programme Valedictorian Aysu Şallı and Faculty of Pharmacy 6 Year Pharm. D. Programme Valedictorian Abdulhalek Dakhel gave speeches. After the speeches, valedictorians of the programmes had a symbolic tree planting ceremony in the name of the graduates.

“We are Deeply Proud of You”

In his opening speech, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam congratulated the academicians, families and students. Giving the graduates advice, Prof. Dr. Osam said: “Dear young graduates. I know you are very excited. As of today, you have reached the happy ending. You have fulfilled the obligations for being employed in your chosen fields. I congratulate you all. Do not sway from righteousness and truth. Carry out your work as a good person. Keep your ambitions under control. Have your world view on love, respect, peace, unity and cooperation. No virtues are greater than being a good person”. Prof. Dr. Osam emphasised that in its 40th year, EMU’s flower of science has flourished and got stronger and that EMU presented the world with scientific knowledge. He also stated that its world rankings in the last three years, research and field-focused ratings were praiseworthy. Prof. Dr. Osam drew attention to the fact that EMU is a world renowned and respected institution of science.

 

After the opening speech, valedictorians of Faculties/Schools and Departments were presented their diplomas and awards by members of protocol. The ceremony continued as the Bachelors’ and Associate Degree graduates received their diplomas; and at the end, all threw their caps in air with great excitement. The ceremony ended with a wonderful music performance by Lütfiye Özipek, one of TRNC’s popular singers.
