TÜSEM Meeting Spring 2017

Eastern Mediterranean University Continuing Education Center (EMU – CEC) is finalising the preparations for the Spring 2017 meeting of the Council of Turkish Universities Continuing Education Centers (TÜSEM). Commencing at Rauf  Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 5:00 p.m. on 27 April 2017, the meeting will continue until 29 April 2017.

Following the opening addresses to be delivered by the President of the EMU-CEC Executive Board and Chair of EMU Interior Architecture Department Prof. Dr. Uğur Ulaş Dağlı, TÜSEM Council Chair Prof. Dr. Eser Y. Sözmen and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, a panel titled “Continuing Education Centers in the Northern Cyprus – Lifelong Learning” will be held under the moderatorship of EMU Industrial Engineering Department academic staff member and Vice President of the EMU-CEC Executive Board Assoc. Prof,  Dr. Orhan Korhan. During the panel, EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. M. Yaşar Özden, Information Technologies and Information Systems academic staff member and Coordinator of EMU-CEC Yeşim Kapsıl Çırak, Chair of the KTMMOB Chamber of Electrical Engineers Mert Girgen and Chair of the KTMMOB Civil Engineers Seran Aysal will be delivering presentations.

Set to continue on 28 April 2017, the meeting will also host the following presentations: President of the Council of TÜSEM Prof. Dr. Eser Sözmen, “Work of Tüsem Council during the 2015-2017 Period”, Vice President of TÜSEM Council Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tamer Atabarut “TÜSEM Council Continuing Education Center’s Status Analysis Findings”, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Kaygın “Academic Developments in the Field of Lifelong Learning in Turkey and throughout the World”. Following the presentations, Prof. Dr. Eser Sözmen and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabah Balta will take part in a panel titled “Recognition and Crediting of the Training Delivered at Continuing Education Centers” followed by oral presentations to be delivered by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Boz and Prof. Dr. Canan Kazak.

The meeting will continute with two presentations, the first of which is Career Development Manager Ömer Gül’s “Lifelong Learning” and the second of which is Pearson Institutional Sales Director Can Mindek’s “Future Careers, Future Skills”. After the presentations, TÜSEM Council Executive Board elections for Fall 2017 term will take place. Then, dates and hosting institutions of 2018 General Council meetings will be specified.

On 29 April 2017, YÖK Internal Auditor Suat Aksu will deliver a presentation titled “Revolving Fund Applications at Continuing Education Centers” followed by the presentation of University Continuing Education Association (UNISED) members Prof. Dr. Uğur Ömürgönülşen and Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Vural;s “Work of UNISED (2015 – 2017)”. The said meeting will then come to an end after the closing remarks.

Established in 2010 upon the approval of the University Rector’s Offices and the initiative of the administrators of the Lifelong Education Centers, TÜSEM aims to ensure that the Continuing Education and Life-Long-Learning Centers become institutions that provide higher quality education in a more active and widespread manner by working on accreditation, assessment and certification of the training programs offered by the centers.  Among TÜSEM’s objectives are also establishing collaborations with the national, European and international institutions, organizations and societies. State and Foundation universities may become members of TÜSEM. Eastern Mediterranean University Continuing Education Center has the unique quality of becoming the first and only institution within the TRNC that has become a member of TÜSEM.
