EMU and ITU-TRNC Education and Research Campuses Sign Collaboration Protocol

A new collaboration protocol concerning the field of engineering has been signed by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Istanbul Technical University – Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (ITU-TRNC) Education and Research Campuses. The collaboration protocol was signed by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and ITU-TRNC Rector Prof. Dr. Ercan Kahya at the EMU Rector’s Office on Tuesday, the 3rd of July 2018 at 10:00.

The protocol was also signed by EMU Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın and ITU Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Serhat Şeker who served as witnesses. Also present during the signature ceremony were EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Halit Tanju Besler and Vice Rector for Administrative and Technical Affairs Prof. Dr. Naciye Doratlı as well as ITU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Önkol, ITU-TRNC Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Serdar Kum and EMU Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department Chair Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel.

Speaking at the signature ceremony, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated that they have built-up important momentum with ITU-TRNC, highlighting his belief that they will carry out important work in the field of engineering too. Prof. Dr. Osam thanked the teams of both universities and wished everyone a fruitful collaboration.

ITU-TRNC Rector Prof. Dr. Ercan Kahya stated “EMU feels like my second home. We are like the only university of the same city. Our relations strengthened under Prof. Dr. Osam’s management. I believe that we will continue carrying out good work together.”

The said protocol aims to develop scientific, technological and educational collaboration between the two institutions. Collaboration will take place in joint fields of interests at academic units and research laboratories between students, members of academic staff and personnel. 

Within the scope of the protocol, the Cognitive Systems Laboratory that will be set-up on the EMU campus will be under joint coordination of the two universities. Thereby, researchers from EMU and ITU-TRNC will be able to participate in industry and state funded consortiums and organize international disciplinary research projects in various fields.
